Prof. Karen Corrigan
Professor of Linguistics and English Language
I am currently Professor of Linguistics and English Language at Newcastle University. I was principal investigator on the AHRC-funded 'Newcastle Electronic Corpus of Tyneside English' and the 'Diachronic Electronic Corpus of Tyneside English' projects at Newcastle University. I have also been awarded grants from AHRC, Humberside, LEA, The Leverhulme Trust and the NHS to conduct research on many different aspects of corpus linguistics, world Englishes and language variation and change. Recent publications include: "Syntax and Variation" (with L. Cornips), John Benjamins; "Creating and Digitizing Language Corpora", Volumes 1 and 2 (with J.C. Beal and H.L. Moisl), Palgrave Macmillan and "Irish English", Edinburgh University Press.
Research and Teaching Interests
Celtic Englishes, Corpus Linguistics, Dialectology, Digital Humanities, Discourse Analysis, History of English, Sociolinguistics and the Sociology of Language.
